Most people are now able to wear contact lenses instead of glasses, at least some of the time. This is why there appears to be such a bewildering choice. When you come for your assessment your practitioner will take very careful measurements of the shape of your eyes, and check with a Biomicroscope the health of the front of the eyes.

We will listen very carefully to your expectations and will make a recommendation for you. Normally, at this point, demonstration lenses are inserted so that you can see for yourself how good they are! We then teach you how to handle and clean them, and arrange for you to come back to tell us how you’ve got on. Often, we may change your initial lenses at that time.
Once both you and the practitioner are satisfied with your lenses, you are usually issued with your final lenses. Requirements often change throughout your lens wearing career, and we need to ensure that your eyes remain healthy, which is why we like to see you regularly, usually every 6 or 12 months.

Why choose lenses?

When Leonardo da Vinci first sketched an idea for a corrective lens to be worn in the eye he couldn’t have imagined that 500 years later nearly 80 million people would be wearing contact lenses worldwide. In the past decade contact lenses have come on leaps and bounds and today they’re available to treat everything from short and longsightedness to more complex visual problems such as astigmatism and presbyopia.

Advances in technology have also allowed manufacturers to tailor contact lenses to suit every lifestyle, from daily disposable lenses for people with hectic schedules, to extended wear lenses (designed for anyone who wants 20/20 vision 24/7, without undergoing laser eye surgery).

As well as being much more practical than glasses (if in doubt just ask any sports person), contact lenses can also provide better results, especially with regard to improved peripheral vision and depth perception.

They can also be a lot of fun. It’s difficult to think of a more striking way to put the finishing touches to a fancy dress costume than with a pair of special effects contact lenses, while coloured contacts are rapidly becoming a ‘must have’ fashion accessory.

As a specialist contact lens practice we are able to use products from all manufacturers and not just a selected few like some of our competitors. Click on an icon for information about some of the best new stuff!
